Commission Opportunities

We are thrilled to offer several commission opportunities to our alumni!

Relâche Ensemble commission competition

Relâche is one of the premier new music ensembles in Philadelphia, and has been providing the community with high-quality performances of contemporary music for over 40 years. One student from the 2019 YWCC will be given the opportunity to write a new piece for members of Relâche and hear their work performed on one of our concerts during the 2019-2020 season. All 2019 students will be automatically considered for this opportunity, and a winner will be chosen by Relâche. The winning composer will receive several lessons from composer and Relâche Executive Director Erica Ball, in addition to a $100 prize. This commission is open to any student of the 2019 camp regardless of age, compositional experience, or location.

UPDATE: The winner of the 2019 Relâche Ensemble Commission Competition is Emily Ta! Her commission will be performed on Relâche’s spring concert on June 6th, 2020 at the Ethical Society in Philadelphia. Click here for concert details.

WSMP has offered a $500 commission to an alumni of the YWCC from any year. The commission is open to an alum who is at least a rising senior in high school and who plans to continue their musical studies in some form at the collegiate level. Any alum fitting this description is invited to apply regardless of compositional experience or location. The winning composer will write a new work for SSAA or SATB choir (with or without piano accompaniment) to be premiered by the WSMP choir during the 2019–2020 season. Composers must apply by September 30th, 2019 to be considered for this opportunity, and a winner will be announced by mid-October.
